3D noob continued: post 2

 

  

    For project 1 I am going to be creating a base for a figure or model that I will be making in project 3.
I want the model base to be rounded, with a pattern spanning the outer edge. I will also add  embellishments on the outer edge to enforce the idea of an impact crater.

    I will use one form of joinery for this project in order to keep it simple. I will join the top and bottom piece of my base in a parallel orientation and join the additions in a T orientation.

I am stuck between choosing acrylic plastic or a soft light wood like alder.
The pattern I wish to add will be a gaelic type of pattern, I'm going for this look so the base is more cohesive with the witch character I want to create for it later.

     I have finally managed to visualize my project accurately through sketches and in 3d. I still am missing the patterning which will sit on top of the figure base when completed. I feel good about this, and I actually feel like I have a decent level of control over my process. I think I've gotten way past being daunted by Rhino and now it feels like a problem solving game that I have been enjoying this week. Each level of the figure base will be a 3mm thick piece of plywood. the figure will stand in the middle, joined with male and female joinery. I'm excited to get it cut. I am hoping to be able to make a figure to be cut and hatched as a test for the base by the time it is due though I have to learn how to use illustrator for cutting to do that i think unless I want to draw it all again in rhino. This is what im planning for a pattern, most likely the heart one arrayed along the top curve of the base.

       I have finalized my object and it is ready to be laser cut. I am excited to see how detailed the engravings will be on it and just how well it joins together. I did not have the opportunity to add a figure this time, but I think that will be my focus for the next project. finished object: engraving details: 2d drawing for lasercutting: Can't wait to see it in real life!
